Use of educational data

Tuesday, December 3, 2019

University of Zurich, KOL-F-121, Rämistrasse 71, 8006 Zurich

In order to make teaching and learning processes more efficient and effective, more and more educational data is being digitized or recorded directly in digital form. The ever-increasing amounts of data generated in this way hold enormous potential that can be harnessed by different actors and for different purposes.
Because private actors today often provide the digital infrastructure (especially software and educational applications), these private actors gain de facto control over educational data. If this data is transferred from the public sector to the private sector, schools and school authorities miss the opportunity to evaluate the educational data for their own purposes or to use it for educational planning. What can teachers, learners, schools or school authorities do to ensure access to educational data? Is there a real threat of a "sell-out" of educational data and, if so, how could this be prevented?
In this event we will examine the topic of use of educational data from an entrepreneurial, educational policy and a legal perspective. In a concluding panel discussion, the opportunities and risks of the use of educational data by private individuals as well as possible legal and political measures with the speakers and the audience will be further deepened.

Admission is free and advance registration is not required. We look forward to your visit!

The event will be held in German.
